Heart
Why I made it?
I picked the heart because it is a common symbol around the world and I wanted to see if there were different meanings I didn’t know about.
Meaning
The colors of the hearts hold meaning. The most used red heart shows strong passion and growing desire to love or to be loved by another. The white heart shows purity, new beginning or an innocent nature. Pink represents a more playful affection or devotion towards someone.
In Japan there are hundreds of meaning for specific colours such as how some colours show status like if you were a warrior the colour violet would symbolize nobility and strength or how white in Shintoism mean the colour of physical purity or gods but in Buddhism it means death because the colour is often used for rituals of samurai suicide.
Interesting Story
Linda Mihara started with 1,000 origami hearts in 2021. to pay respects to the victims of the (AAPI) hate crimes. She put the hearts on her front window as a display; She wanted this project to go worldwide and, now she has over 6,900 hearts.
I thought that the idea of a paper heart held more meaning than just the shape. Paper is delicate and needs to be handled with care or else it will rental and will be teared apart
The act of making paper hearts can even be traced to the Victorian era because exchanging simple hand made gifts was popularized due to the limited methods of communication. But, even now we fold paper hearts to show your dedication towards people close to us, and to show that practice can always get you closer to improving in anything.
